Castillo, Cowan, García and Rubio-Goldsmith have been key contributors to every social movement in Southern Arizona since the 1970s. The Mujeres de Manzo are public servants, educators and community activists who have shaped the debates, movements and policies related to binational migration, public education, labor and civil rights that have emerged as central to national politics in recent months. At the heart of their inclusive community organizing is popular education with an eye toward justice and dignity for all.

Hence, their current campaign, Pima County Justice for All, includes staff members and volunteers that come from diverse geographies, educational backgrounds, ages, ethnicities and legal statuses. These women recognize that the arc of justice bends slowly and it is always necessary to mentor and nurture the next generation of leadership in the ongoing struggle for liberation in the borderlands. It is urgent that we capture intimate stories while these women are still healthy and active.
